Anita
Anita Lalwani

Anita Lalwani has had the honor and pleasure of studying with Director Carolena Nericcio and FatChanceBellyDance since 1997.  She started dancing with the professional troupe in 2003 and has been teaching classes at the FatChance studio for the last five years.  Anita brings a sense of discipline and humor to her classroom, encouraging her students to work hard, but also to smile and have fun.  She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge of ATS with you all and learning how you practice ATS in your dance community.  In addition to teaching and performing ATS, Anita works as a personal trainer and yoga instructor.

Our New Guests

Shasha

Shasha began belly dancing in 1993 after seeing a sign in the window at the Kismet studio in Salt Lake City.  “I know I have to do that” she told herself.  Shasha has been passionate about belly dancing ever since.  She continues to expand her knowledge of belly dance through diligent practice, attending workshops and performing at every opportunity.  She has studied from internationally recognized masters of dance.  Delilah, Aziza, and Fahtiem are just a few of her favorite influences.

Shasha was also a member of Veiled Visions under the direction of Ravonda for 6 years.  In 2003 Shasha co-founded Whirlwinds of Brogla (notable 1st place giggles contest winners) along with long time friends and fellow Veiled Vision members, Katya and Virrina.  Under the direction of Shasha they each contribute their own style and creativity to the Whirlwinds choreography and costumes.

Shasha’s passion is evident in the joy she exudes when performing and in her enthusiasm for teaching.  Shasha dances professionally on occasion at venues such as weddings, birthdays, and restaurants.  She has also been a dance instructor at Far East Fitness, various youth programs, and to new members of the Whirlwinds, Mary and Kyva (Sabrina).  Shasha also works as an auto technician, is a business management student at the University of Utah, an aspiring tattoo artist, and is a mother of two.

Molly

Molly has been dancing most of her life, and has been teaching belly dance since 2003. She founded and directed Jasmir in Steamboat Springs, CO, and now teaches and performs with Bella Rouge Tribal Fusion in Grand Junction, CO. Molly has always been particularly inspired by finger cymbals, and loves the fact that belly dance incorporates the playing of an instrument while dancing! What fun!

Festival highlights:

Tribal Sands is a gathering of belly dancers from the Southwest who converge to celebrate the world of Belly Dance. This year we have workshops and performances from our favorite return performers, Anita from Fat Chance, and Amy Sigil from Unmata,  as well as new guests  Shasha, from Salt Lake, and Molly from Grand Junction.

Come dance, come learn.

Our festival starts with an evening of Dancing in the Desert on Friday May 7, 2010.  The following evening we have a great show in the world famous Star Hall, where Troupe’s from throughout the Southwest perform before a packed crowd.  The festival ends with an overnight river trip on the Colorado river, where we crown new Queens of D'Nile at a  farewell bash.

In between all this fun and entertainment are workshops.  Learn the secrets of ATL, learn using zills, learn using veils, learn stage presence, and learn from Amy Sigil what makes UNMATA appear magic on stage.

The festival begins on Friday with desert dancing, and eating!

Saturday will include workshops.

On Saturday May 7, 2010, The Tribal Sands show will be held in Moab's historic Star Hall; performances begin on Saturday at 6:00pm.  Tickets for the performance are $15.00.

On Sunday we will have another full day of  dance workshops.

On Monday  and Tuesday is our famous Colorado River trip.  This year the trip will be an overnight trip, which promises to provide a lot of fun, relaxation, and beachside dancing.
