Moab's 4th Annual Belly Dance & Drum Festival

September 19th – 23rd, 2008, Moab Utah

Desert Veils invites you to our fourth annual Tribal Sands Belly Dance & Drum Festival, being held September 19-23, 2008,  in Moab, Utah.  Tribal Sands is a gathering of belly dancers and drummers from all over the US and Canada, in order to celebrate the world of belly dance.

This year we have workshops and performances from Belly Dance Super Star Kami Liddle, Anita from Fat Chance, Amy Sigil from Unmata (and Shelly),  Dragomi's Fvorboda from Salt Lake City, Desert Veils from Moab,  It Is What It Is  a middle eastern band from Texas, and our special guest, musician Azul Salvaje from Canada.  We have desert dancing, a great show in the world famous Star Hall, an overnight river trip on the Colorado river, where we crown new Queens of D'Nile, a farewell bash and belly award ceremony, and many more surprises.

The festival begins on Friday with workshops, desert dancing, and eating!  Saturday will include more workshops, as well as performances by many outstanding belly dancers from throughout North America.

The Tribal Sands show will be held in Moab's historic Star Hall; performances begin on Saturday at 7:00pm.  Tickets for the performance are $15.00.

About Star Hall: Built in 1905, Star Hall was originally used for secular & non-secular entertainment.  The building was recently renovated and is now used for films, plays, concerts, festivals & weddings.

It has a seating capacity of 289, plus three empty slots for handicapped seating.

The performers area has dressing rooms, a green room, and 27' x 40' stage.

On Sunday we will have another full day of dancing and drumming workshops, as well as a "hosted" party for performers, instructors, and invited guests

On Monday through Tuesday is our famous Colorado River trip.  This year the trip will be an overnight trip, which promises to provide a lot of fun, relaxation, and beachside dancing.  This is your opportunity to be initiated into the Queens of De Nile Tribe... Shimmy on!

Cost: $50.00 per person.
Itinerary: Monday Sept.22 in the afternoon we will begin our journey down the Colorado River. Here you will be inducted into the Queens of D'Nile most amazing group of river rats! (Crown included) . We will spend the night and oh what a night we will have. We will have food, live music, dancing and plenty of stuff to drink and be merry. Bring a warm set of clothing and your personal gear. Sometime Tuesday afternoon, we will embark back on the river again and float down to the Moab boat dock. From there you can return  home or stay in Moab for the evening.

If we have crappy weather we will have a very fun alternative...

For those of you who have never been on a river trip, this is a very gentle stretch of the river and so beautiful. The boat crew will help you if you need it.
